Open an Archive File in Outlook 2003


From time to time users need access to old Outlook emails  they saved to their local hard drives, but they don’t want to keep them visible in their Outlook profiles. They just want to take a quick look at it then close them back up.  This quick tutorial  shows how to view a .pst file through an Outlook profile. It will also show how to remove it from the navigation pane once you’re done with it. The tutorial is given using Outlook 2003 in an Exchange environment.

In Outlook 2003 go to File > Open > Outlook Data File

Go to Outlook Data File






Find the .pst file you want to view and select it.

Locate the archive file

find the archive file





The archive file will  appear in the navigation pane

Look for the Header named Archive Folders

The Mailbox Navigation Pane








When you no longer need to use the archive file, remove the .pst file from the navigation pane by  right-clicking on it and selecting close archive folders.

Close Archive Folders
